‘In Session’

“The unexamined life is not worth living”

            Socrates

I sit here in front of you, a heavy heart

I don’t know you, I don’t know where to start

But it was suggested I come here

Talk things through with a stranger, with you

It seems so pointless talking to someone

Who knows nothing about me

What do I say? What will you think?

I look at you, your eyes are kind

So I take a leap of faith and swallow my pride

I talk, I open up, and sometimes I cry

I share with you secrets buried so deep

You listen, you don’t judge, my secrets you keep

And when I finish, I take a breath

My sinuses for once are unblocked

By sharing with you, something inside me has unlocked

I am glad I came to you, made a start

I leave here now with a lighter heart.
